Preventative Dentistry and Gum Treatment

The next step in the Programme aims to prevent further deterioration of the teeth and gums by encouraging you to adopt excellent oral hygiene and dietary habits, and to stop smoking if you are a smoker. Measures to prevent tooth decay include surface treatments such as fluoride and fissure sealants. We analyse your completed diet sheet and advise accordingly. We will instruct you in correct toothbrushing and flossing techniques.

Acute and chronic gum inflammation is treated, sometimes over a number of visits and involve tartar (calculus) removal (scaling) and cleaning the tooth root surfaces (root planing). Where bone has receded due to longstanding gum disease, this may be successfully replaced with bone grafting techniques (bone regeneration).
